Simalungun Robusta comes from Simalungun Regency in North Sumatra and was registered as a geographical indication on 28 November 2025.
Its registration number is IDG000000253. This robusta grows at 400–1,200 m and is processed natural and honey, the two methods recorded in DJKI's GI catalogue. Simalungun now has two coffee GIs: this robusta and Sumatera Simalungun Arabica, registered in 2015. In North Sumatra the only other robusta GI is Sidikalang Robusta from Dairi; the other nine are arabica. BPS recorded 91,695 tonnes of coffee from 99,064 hectares in North Sumatra in 2024, a figure for the whole province.
