Tanah Karo Arabica comes from Karo Regency in North Sumatra and was registered as a geographical indication on 23 August 2019.
Its registration number is IDG000000086. DJKI's GI catalogue describes a medium to full body, a complex flavour, light to medium acidity, a balanced cup, milk to dark chocolate, caramel, and an acidity that recalls citrus. Karo is the northernmost coffee GI region of North Sumatra on this map, bordering Simalungun, which has both an arabica and a robusta GI, and Dairi, home of Sidikalang Robusta.
