Pulo Samosir Arabica comes from Samosir Regency in North Sumatra.
It was registered as a geographical indication on 13 July 2018, the same day as Sipirok Arabica, under number IDG000000067. On this map Samosir borders three other coffee GI regions of the same province: Sumatera Lintong Arabica in Humbang Hasundutan, Sumatera Pakpak Simsim Arabica in Pakpak Bharat, and Sidikalang Robusta in Dairi. North Sumatra has eleven coffee GI regions, nine arabica and two robusta. BPS recorded 99,064 hectares of coffee and 91,695 tonnes of production in the province in 2024; its production was the third largest in that year's provincial table.
